[ Orbost / Snowy River Region ]

Orbost is the gateway to seven national parks and is just ten minutes from the golden sands of Ninety Mile Beach. Orbost is the hub for exploring Snowy River Country, and is blessed with a mild climate. The rich river flats sustain agriculture, particularly vegetables, dairying and beef farming, alongside the important timber industry.

The largest remaining cool and warm temperate rainforests are found in East Gippsland, the Rainforest Capital of Victoria. Visit the Rainforest Centre in Orbost to learn more about these ancient forests.

[ Slab Bark Hut ]

Or drop into nearby Cape Conran Reserve and see the display of natural beauty, with a stunning coastline of headlands, rocky shores, sheltered bays and endless golden beaches. Enjoy swimming, surfing, picnics, native trails, and wildflower plains east or Marlo. Visit Pt Richardo beach for surf fishing and beautiful sunsets. Yeering Estuary is a delightful area for family outings. Visit Grandview Lookout for magnificent views over the famous Snowy River flats, once busy with buggies and bullock wagons. From Marlo, where the Snowy River meets the sea, paddle schooners and ketches once carried produce to Melbourne. Visit the Slab Hut, an authentic early settler's hut relocated from near Snowy River, and now the Visitors Information Centre. Orbost has it all, from the mountains to the sea.
