| Mirboo North is situated two hours southeast of Melbourne in
the Strzelecki Ranges. It is the only town on the Grand Ridge
Road and on the Strzelecki Highway that links the two large regions of Latrobe
and South Gippsland.
Bush walks such as Lyrebird Walk, Baths Road Reserve and the Rail Trail to nearby Boolarra offer the tourist the unique opportunity to study the varied flora and fauna. The Rail Trail also offers historians the chance to inspect the huge cuttings, embankments and culverts made from local bricks over one hundred years ago. Alternative farming such as emus, chestnuts, lavender, berries and proteas can all catch the tourists eye. The Grand Ridge Road that travels the length of the Strzelecki Ranges offers panoramic views of temperate forest, steep ferny gullies and rich farmland. There are numerous Bed and Breakfasts which offer a wide range of hospitality also a Hotel / Motel and camp style accommodation for schools and large groups. Not many towns have their own Brewery and the Grand Ridge Brewery with its modern restaurant and award winning beer in the main street is a focal point for tourists and locals alike. People travel for miles around to relax in the parklands, take in the swimming pool in its' bush surrounds or play eighteen holes of golf at the highly manicured golf course. The South Gippsland Classic is scheduled for Mirboo North on Sunday 15th February 1998. Baromi Park that runs the length of the main streets the venue for the Community Market that is held on the last Saturday of every month. Saint Paul's Festival, organised by the Italian community is also held here on the Sunday of the Labour Day weekend in March. This follows a church service and a parade in the main street. The three levels of schooling are available in Mirboo North and have annual fundraising events that have become part of the calender. The Kindergarten Fete is held in the week preceding Mothers Day and the Primary School Fete is held late August early September. The Secondary College hold a Fete at the end of the first term. The Primary School also hold an Art Show over the second weekend of May and is a highly successful event. The Agricultural Show is held on the first Saturday of February and has something for everyone to enjoy. The district has many varieties of garden nurseries, cottage to native. The Woodland Garden Expo held in September is an event that any gardener would not want to miss. At Thorpdale, 15 Km north of Mirboo North a Potato Festival is held on Labour Day Monday that offers a lot for everyone to enjoy. Every year there are car rallies such as the 'Mirboo Meanders' and horse endurance rides because of the variety of venues the district has to offer.
