The wilderness coast district would be Victoria's most remote and beautiful
area. The scenery from Cann River to the border is full of contrast, with areas dominated
by tall eucalypts and as you get closer to the coast, the vegetation gives way to coastal
ti-tree and banksia until finally the sand dunes of the beach are reached. At Genoa, turn off the highway and head south to the delightful small town of Mallacoota, built on one of the many inlets and home to a thriving abalone industry. The area is surrounded by national parks, with tall forests, ferns, cool clear waters, secluded beaches and quiet rivers. As remote as it may seem the area offers all the comforts a
visitor may want with excellent accommodation and fine restaurants. There are also many
attractions to see and numerous activities like fishing the rivers and inlets, canoeing,
swimming, bushwalking into nature or just plain relaxing at the campsite.
