When touring a region, one of the things that is overlooked, is
the Industry. Yet it gives an indication of the prosperity and diversity that is present
in that area.
| The type of Industry that Gippsland has to
offer ranges from intensive agricultural and forrestry, to heavy power generation, gas and
coal mining. Nowhere else in the world does a region offer such a diverse range of
industries, and coupled with the regions interlectual capacity, has put Gippsland on the
international map. While in the region why not
explore the Industry, discover for yourself why this area is so unique, how things operate
and what keeps our world turning. |
 |
Many of the Industries offer educational
information about themselves, that is suitable for school projects and the like, and some
are coupled with tours of their operations.
 |
There are conducted tours with PowerWorks
(Gippslands leading industrial tourism body), where you can visit the coal mines of the
Latrobe Valley, look around a working power station, or the operations of Australias
largest pulp and paper mill. You may prefer to
view them from a distance. The area, due to its terrain has many vantage viewing points
scattered at strategic points, where excellent views are obtainable of some of the larger
industries such as Loy Yang, Yallourn and Hazelwood Power Stations and Australian Paper
Mill at Maryvale. |
If that's not enough then you can try it at
night, when there is a whole new perspective, which hides the ugly side of industry and
brings out the mystery behind it. Night time viewing displays an arry of lighting that
matches the silohuete, and would rival the spectacle of big city lights. So when in the
area make sure that you see it at night as well as during the day, as it is definitely
something that should not be missed.
